Why You Should Fall in Love with a Slytherin and Not Misunderstand Them Anymore

Last updated on April 6, 2024 by Michelle Devani

Labelled as the “bad guy” among four houses probably makes Slytherin the less popular in Hogwarts. Not to mention that the biggest villain Voldemort was a proud Slytherin too. But as we flipped through the seven books, we can help but find that Slytherin is somehow really cool.

And, yes, there are so many misunderstanding toward Slytherin as we discover the truth about Severus Snape in the very last book. You don’t really need reasons why you should fall in love with a Slytherin. But if you are too sided with Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff, maybe you don’t know Slytherin that well. Let’s go down and see how much a Slytherin could offer as a lover…

  1. They Have a Big Ambition

“Or perhaps in Slytherin you’ll make your true friends.  Those cunning folk use any means to achieve their ends.” – The Sorting Hat

Each Slytherin lives with their own ambition. Some of that is questionable and unacceptable but they will do everything necessary to achieve their ambition. The most horrible example is how Voldemort had “ambition” to rule the Wizarding World and make it “Muggle-free”. It’s terrible, but how he stood for his ambition until the very end is what we should learn. Also read Reasons to Date a Writer

  1. Slytherins Never Know When to Give Up

The ambitious nature of a Slytherin makes them try too hard that they never give up. They are consistent with it, from Horace Slughorn who makes friends with famous wizards over the years, Voldemort who find his way back to be a ruler, Draco Malfoy who is trying to murder Dumbledore until the end even when he knew it’s impossible.

  1. Their Cunning Nature is Charming

Slytherins are full of secrecy. They are tricky but it somehow makes them charming. And it started from its founder himself, when Salazar Slytherin built a secret chamber without the other three knowing and only his heir could open. This is annoying but useful at many times. Also read How to Make a Hot Boy Fall in Love with You

  1. And They Indeed Charming

Do you know when a Slytherin unleashes their charm, you won’t be able to resist? Yes, Slytherin are a natural charmer. We’re not talking about Snape, but look at how Tom Riddle impressed all teachers when he was student and Lucius Malfoy who always sleekly made his way to get close to Minister for Magic. Well, you will discover more of it if you date them.

  1. You Will Hang Out in Their Cool Common Room

Okay, we get a glimpse of their common room in Chamber of Secrets but we want to know more! The dimly lit dungeon with a window looking out at the depth of Hogwarts’ Lake would be the most romantic venue to date ever. Also read Why You Should Date a Girl Who Reads

  1. They Know What They Want

"After all, He Who Must Not Be Named did great things – terrible, yes, but great." – Ollivander, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Slytherins have a big ambition because they know what they want, even when it’s the bad one. They set their eyes on the prize from the very beginning and don’t let anything get on their way.

  1. Slytherin’s Confidence is Immeasurable

Slytherins know they are great, and they don’t have to do much to show it. Or so they think. When Ravenclaw wants to be the smartest in the lot, Hufflepuff who always try to find their place, and Gryffindor who worship bravery more than anything, all Slytherins do is walking around saying that they are Slytherin. Also read How to Get What You Want from a Narcissistic Man

  1. They’re Extremely Loyal

This could be the biggest reason why you should fall in love with a Slytherin. They may looks evil and cold from the outside, but they are a loyal person inside. They give only their true heart to everything they love.

You must haven’t forget how Snape constantly loved Lily even after her death until his own death, despite his detestation to James Potter. He loved her right from the start. Always.

  1. You’ll Know How to Steal Snape’s Heart

It’s no secret that Professor Snape is the most evil teacher around. Remember how Neville’s boggart turned into Snape once? Not to mention the horrible detention he loved to give. But Snape loves Slytherin just too much that he never take any single point out of them nor give them a hard detention.

Imagine dating a Slytherin and you don’t have to tiptoe around Snape anymore.

  1. They are Tough

Slytherins really stand tall on their ground. Despite being the most hated house, they don’t affected by it at all. As the house where Voldemort once belong, being a Slytherin must be hard with judging eye from others everywhere they go. But look at how tough they are against all judgment and stay proud of who they are.

Yes, they some of them are attention seeker like Draco. But you must know how he never let others to step on him. Instead, he (literally) stepped on Harry that he made his nose broke.

  1. All of Us Have a Slytherin Inside

"Yes, you were particularly difficult to place. But I stand by what I said last year: You would have done well in Slytherin." – The Sorting Hat to Harry, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Everyone has an ambition inside them and we won’t give up until we achieve it. We want to show the world what we are capable of and sometime there’s a little bit arrogance in us. Well, all of them belong to Slytherin. Which means, we always have that Slytherin side in us. Even Harry almost made a Slytherin if he didn’t plead the Hat not to place him in it.

All of the reasons why you should fall in love with a Slytherin above seemed not enough. You have to know them closer and try not to see them from the Gryffindor’s shoes. Really, Slytherins make a perfect lover.
